How We Test Every Shortcut | Hardware Verification Lab

A shortcut on this site means someone pressed those keys and watched the character appear. Nothing is copied from code charts untested.

Windows 11 24H2 & macOS 15.1

The process, per character

1. Windows: each Alt code is typed in Notepad with NumLock on, then again in Word — Alt codes that need a leading zero fail without it, and that failure is part of the test. 2. Mac: each shortcut is typed in TextEdit on a US layout, plus the hold-key popup where claimed. 3. Phone: each long-press is tried on iOS and Gboard; where no long-press exists (ß on iPhone, ₦ on iPhone) the page says so instead of inventing one. 4. Word/HTML: Alt+X codes and entities are rendered and eyeballed — ˜ vs ~ style traps are caught here.

Current test bench: Windows 11 24H2, macOS 15.1 — printed on every page in its “Last verified” line.

Updates and corrections

Pages are re-verified against new OS releases, not on a fake “weekly” schedule — our sitemaps declare honest frequencies for exactly this reason. Found a shortcut that fails on your layout? Tell us with your OS, layout and app; reproducible failures are retested and fixed with a new stamp.

Human involvement, stated plainly

Drafting tools assist with prose; they never supply shortcuts. Every code, keystroke and phone gesture passed through human hands on real systems, the screenshots are captured by us, and the copy tools are our own code. That is the whole claim — verifiable one keystroke at a time.
