Identify which layout you're on
Windows: look at the taskbar corner — ENG US, ENG UK, DEU, FRA. Mac: the menu-bar flag or layout code. Then type " Z Y: US puts @ on Shift+2, UK on Shift+', German swaps Z/Y, French rearranges everything (AZERTY).
Switch back in two seconds
Windows: hold Win and tap Space until your layout highlights. Mac: Control + Space (or the Fn/globe key on newer Macs) cycles inputs.
Remove the layout so it never recurs
Windows: Settings → Time & language → Language & region → ⋯ next to your language → Language options → under Keyboards, Remove everything you don't physically own. One language, one keyboard, zero accidental switches.
Mac: System Settings → Keyboard → Text Input → Edit → select extras → minus. Also check “Automatically switch to a document's input source” if per-app switching confuses you.
If it changes per app or after reboot
Windows remembers layouts per window (“Let me set a different input method for each app window” under Advanced keyboard settings) — uncheck it.
